I can't find fault really with anyone that they've text for certain part. It's just I was sort of led to believe that the director wanted me for more significant parts that it seems I'm going to have. Right now all I have is Sambel(?) and one line as Wiston Churchill and Spring time for Hitler. That's it. When he didn't have to do anything part for me and he said that I was on Sambel(?) that kinda plot well maybe it's easy C P A or the cup at the end something like that. No not so much. Well more to come but yeah disappointed.” Auto-Transcribed Voice Post |

Day two of auditions is over. I think I did alright. Some of the other attendees I talked to seemed to think I did alright too. It's hard to tell. It's been 3 years since I auditioned for a show. Four years since I was in a show. And 5 years since I was really anxious about rehearsal results.
So callbacks are on Friday. Calls are going to be made by 3pm tomorrow. That means I still have 14 hours to fixate on whether or not I am going to get called.
After talking to the director yesterday, it seems that he has me in mind to play Franz Leibkind. It could be a lot of fun, also, not much dancing. At least not as much as other parts. I really hope I get it.
I really forgot how much I hate this part of the audition process.
Waiting sucks.
Oh, for those who are mildly interested, I sang the beginning of "What do you do with a BA in English?" for my audition piece. At least the audience seemed to enjoy it. The director, I couldn't tell.

OK f-list. I need some good vibes. Tomorrow I'm going to do something I haven't done in over 3 years: I'm going to audition for community theatre. More than that, I'm going to audition for a musical, something I've only done once before, with not very good results.
Some of you are into theatre. Some of you have seen me perform. Others, neither. But I really need some confidence here. I'm a little out of practice, but the new work schedule and the fact that I've lost 27 pounds have given me the catalyst to give it a shot.
Those of you who are in theatre know what it's like and know what I'm talking about. I really want to do well because the show is "The Producers." I really don't want to embarrass myself.

So Chicago Comicon was this past weekend, one of my two favorite weekends of the year. I decided to work the mon-tue between Comicon and GenCon in order to save some vacation time.
Comicon was great!! Steph and I did this VIP party on Friday night to meet Camden Toy, Doug Jones, and Emma Caulfield from Buffy. It was just supposed to be them, but a lot of the other celebs from the weekend wandered in, including Nichelle Nichols and Rowdy Roddy Piper (who is the nicest guy in the world!!) Pictures to follow.
After another day of shopping, panels, and hunting for comics, I decided to see if I could schmooz my way into the VIP party on Saturday night. This was supposed to be more expensive and I didn't have a ticket, but Steph and I had been talking to the guy who is now in charge of Chicago Comicon so I decided to see what could happen. Never underestimate the ability to go wherever you want to if you act like you know where you are going and you belong there. I got in! Got to talk to the Buffy celebs again, and Piper again, but I also got to spend about 30 minutes talking to Steve Sansweet, VP of Lucasfilm. Did I mention this was the Star Wars celeb party? It was awesome! The party wrapped up and since I was about 20 minutes from the Chicago LARP, I decided to stop by, just in time for game wrap.
Sunday was also great, but by the end of the day, we were ready to go home. Steph and I had to turn in early because she had to be at the airport at 4:30am on Monday. I took her then went home to unpack a little and get a little more sleep before work. Everything was fine until about 12:30pm when I got really nauseated. Spent the rest of the day toughing things out until it was time to go home. Got home last night at about 7pm, went to sleep and slept until 3am, woke up for an hour, and slept for another 3 hours.
Feeling a lot better today, although my back is really stiff. Thinking I just slept on it wrong.
I hope things stay on the upward trend since I have to get up tomorrow and head down to Indy for GenCon. We shall see! I hope to have reports direct from GenCon!

OK everyone. Here comes the annual plea for donations.
On June 20, I will attending the Annual Buffy/Angel Slay-A-Thon for the Make-A-Wish foundation in Chicago. As everyone knows, Make-A-Wish grants wishes to terminally ill children. An awesome trip, a meeting with their favorite celeb or athlete, etc. The problem is, these things cost money. A lot of money. I'm hoping that this is where you guys can help.
I'm currently collecting donations and would like to ask all my friends at this point to help. I know some of you are having a tough time and that's cool. I don't want you to feel you have to make any excuses or anything, just don't contribute. It's cool, I know the economy sucks. But I hope I can count on everybody else. If you live in the Milwaukee area and I'm going to see you in the next three weeks, feel free to give me your donations. If you live further away, the USPS or paypal work great. Just let me know.
If you find yourself in the Chicagoland area on June 20, stop on by for a little while. We would love to see you!
For more info on the event, check out www.slayathon.org
My paypal address is darobins816[at]hotmail.com
Snail mail upon request for those who don't have it.
Thanks for your help everyone. I really appreciate it.

I've been kinda sparse on updating lately. Not that I haven't wanted to, just haven't gotten around to it.
I promise that I will post an update of substance soon. Most likely by monday night.
Until then!

Books completed in 2009: (Most recently completed first)
Kitty and the Dead Man's Hand Carrie Vaughn
(I love this series! Vamps, werewolves, and other such stuff is mainstream. Plus it's set in Vegas! What more can I want?)
The Killing Dance by Laurell K. Hamilton
(Kinda burning through the stuff on my shelf I've never gotten to. Decent piece of fluff. No real heavy content here, but a couple decent scenes.)
Swallowing Darkness by Laurell K. Hamilton
(Enjoyed it for what it was. Decent end to the story.)
Currently reading:
Backlog of comics from the past couple weeks.

I started this in 2008, and then failed in updating it. I'm going to try it again. Who's with me?
Just list the books you read in 2009 as you finish them or move on. Title and author and a brief comment on each. Copy the text from your previous entry when you post an addition and just add to it. Maybe you will see something on someone else's list that sparks your interest.

Steph is officially the best girlfriend ever. We finally exchanged gifts last night. She rocks. She got me the DVD of Jeff Dunham - Spark of Insanity and tickets to see him in Madison in May. Teh awesome! i've also been obsessing about getting a backwards compatible PS3 since I don't have a PS2 and I want to play Kingdom Hearts, FFX, etc. What did she do? She just went and got me a PS2 and all 3 Kingdom Hearts games! So excited! Been a long time since I've been able to sink my teeth into a game like that. The other awesome thing, I finally have a system I can play Guitar Hero and Rock Band on! Older versions of the games, but I can still play and get better!!
She loved everything I got her. The big hit was "The Gotham Box." It had a 4-pack of Batman Collector's Edition Pez dispensers (Batman, Joker, Riddler, and Two-Face), a watch with a black face with a silver Batman logo, a Catwoman statue from the Women of DC collection (she already had Huntress, Batwoman, Batgirl, Black Canary, and Harley Quinn), a comic book version Joker messenger bag that I drove to Madison for, narrowly avoiding snow in the process. The bag was the biggest hit of the box.
I got her some other stuff too, but The Gotham Box was her favorite box. She said, "This was a good box."
*Sigh* We are such dorks.
Besides what I got from Steph, I also got Dark Knight on DVD, Entourage Season 4, Supernatural Season 3, Prince Caspian, 24 Redemption, Nickelback - Dark Horse, The Tales of Beedle the Bard, and Swallowing Darkness by Laurell K. Hamilton. I also got the inevitable, clothes. Overall, good holiday.
